Multiple Releases For Priyanka Chopra In 2008
Date: 06/30/2008:
After a quite 2007, Priyanka Chopra will have many big releases in 2008. The first out of the gate will be a science fiction movies named Love Story 2050 (2008) starring debutant Harman Baweja . Then it will be another superhero science fiction releasing in October 2008, Drona (2008) opposite Abhishek Bachchan . Then it will a movie based on the fashion industry, appropriately named Fashion (2008) , which is scheduled to be released in November 2008. Followed by the release of Dostana (2008) also in November which will be opposite Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham .

Tyson Foods Inc, based in Chicago, USA, announced that it has purchased a 51 percent stake in a poultry processor in India, Godrej Foods Ltd. The new company will be known as Godrej Tyson Foods and will have annual sales of around $50 million. Godrej has chicken processing plants in Bangalore and Mumbai.

PETA Announcenes Asia's Sexiest Vegetarians

PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, named Bollywood film star Amitabh Bachchan was named Asia's sexiest male vegetarian while Chinese singer and actress Faye Wong was named as Asia's sexiest female vegetarian. Wong edged out Die Hard 4 beauty Maggie Q .

Now Sania will face Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain and a victory will put her against defending champion Venus Williams .

Maria Sharapova In Wimbledon

Maria Sharapova will take part in the Wimbledon this year but will have a new look. The 21 year old tennis superstar was seen in 2004 singles champion wearing a diamond encrusted outfits will now wear shorts for this years Wimbledon. Maria won the Australian Open in January and is favoured to win the Wimbledon. She will first face Stephanie Foretz from France as her first opponent at the Wimbledon. Maria is not a top seed which has been given to Serbian Ana Ivanovic .
India's Sania Mirza , 32nd seeded, will face Colombia's Catalina Castano, 148 in WTA rankings, in the first round and should find it easy to move on to the next round. Sania is trying a comeback after her surgery which has put her out early in the DFS Classic in Birmingham and The Ordina Open.

TV show Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain had it's first Rs 1 crore winner. Pragjyoti Samal, a 24 year old computer engineer from Bhubaneshwar, Orissa become the first person to win the grand prize of Rs one crore. She also became the first woman to win Rs one crore on a reality show on Indian television.

Continental Airlines will leave the SkyTeam alliance with Delta and Northwest and now be part of the Star Alliance along with world’s largest airlines like ANA, Singapore, Lufthansa, Thai, and United and others. This will able the airlines to coordinate schedules and pricing and sell seats on each other’s flights.

On Monday 16 June, Tiger Woods won the US Open victory at Torrey Pines Golf Club in South, La Jolla, CA, while nursing a knee injury. The conclusion provided a very climatic ending with Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate in a head on playoff after the tie during the regular match. Now two days later, Tiger has announced that he will undergo reconstructive surgery to the anterior cruciate ligament on his left knee, this will require rehabilitation on a double stress fracture of his left tibia and hence Tiger will miss the 2008 seasons. This will include such matches like September's Ryder Cup, Open Championship at Birkdale and PGA Championship in Michigan in August.

The Boston Celtics won the Basketball News NBA Championship Title by crushing the Los Angeles Lakers 131 to 92 in the 6th game of the final. The Celtics played well all around with their key players playing their best game with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen ledding the way with 26 points each, and Rajon Rondo with 21 points, while Paul Pierce only had 17 points but made up with 10 assists. The win marks Boston's 17th NBA Championship, the last one over 22 years ago. Only last year, Boston finished with league's worst records with just 24 wins, marking a great turned around by the team and their coach, Doc Rivers.
On the other hands the Lakers seemed to have been jetlagged by their trip from the west coast. Kobe Bryant started well with 3 three pointer in the first couple of minutes, but then was kept quite for the rest of the game with no major impacts. He could not break thru the Boston's defenese.

The recovery from Sania Mirza seems like it's going to be a tough fight for her. After her early exit from the WTA DFS Classic in Birmingham, she has now lost to local favorite at the Ordina Open in s Hertogenbosch, Netherlands in less then an hour with the score of 2-6, 2-6.

On Monday, Honda's new zero emission, hydrogen fuel cell car rolled off a Japanese production line on it's way to Southern California, USA. The FCX Clarity , runs on hydrogen and electricity, and emits only water. Honda plans to produce few dozen units this year and about 200 units within three years. The car will be available for lease only at about $600 a month which will include maintenance and collision coverage. The car will be sent to some of Hollywood stars like Jamie Lee Curtis and filmmaker husband Christopher Guest, actress Laura Harris, film producer Ron Yerxa, businessmen Jon Spallino and Jim Salomon. The FCX Clarity has a range of about 270 miles per tank with hydrogen consumption equivalent to 74 miles per gallon.

After lossing in the early rounds of the WTA DFS Classic in Birmingham, Sania Mirza has beaten fifth seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta, world number 23, in straight sets to move on to the second round of $175,000 Ordina Open at Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. Sania won the match in a little over an hour with the score of 6-4, 6-3.

Bollywood makes a bigger entry into Hollywood. For the first time in Indian cinema, a Bollywood movie will shot entirely within the Hollywood studio, Universal Studios. We are talking about the movie Kambakkht Ishq (2008) staring Akshay Kumar and Kareen Kapoor and being directed by Sabir Khan. The movie has Akshay playing a Hollywood stuntman and Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone making a cameo appearance playing himself in the movie.

Sania Mirza Comeback Disappoints, Sunitha Rao Moves On

Sania Mirza has been away from Tennis for the past couple of months to recover from her wrist injury. Sania made her comeback at the USD 200,000 WTA DFS Classic in Birmingham. She played well but lost to New Zealand's Marina Erakovic 6-3, 6-0 in straight sets. This will help Sania get back in form to take part in the Wimbledon which begins on June 23, 2008.
On the other hand, Sunitha Rao continued her winning run by ralling to beat local challenger Naomi Cavaday 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Apple recently announced their next version of the iPhone , it's a 3G version with features like global positioning technology, support for Microsoft Exchange Server, geotagging, video playback, audio playback, view PowerPoint attachments, bulk move and delete, a scientific calculator, parental controls, support for 16 languages, and some update to it's look. The other major change will be the price, it's lower. iPhone 3G 8 Giga Byte model will cost $199 while the 16 Giga Byte model will retail for $299. The new iPhone will go on sale July 11.

Shruti Haasan To Make Bollywood Debut

Kamal Haasan's daughter Shruti Haasan is all set to make her Bollywood film debut. Shruti has been signed for the movie Luck (2008) to play opposite Imran Khan , Aamir Khan 's nephew. The film will be directed by Soham Shah with music by Salim Suleiman. The movie also stars Sanjay Dutt , Mithun Chakraborty, Danny Denzongpa, Ravi Kissen and Rati Agnihotri and is set to begin filming in early July in South Africa.

The Maharashtra Government today approved plans to build a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj some one kilometer into the Arabian Sea with the height of 300 feet. The statue will be off the coast of Mumbai , and will about 30 storey high and almost two kilometers into the sea, and the statue will be taller then the Statue of Liberty in New York, USA.
