Closing Bell, Market Summary: 12/31/2008

12/31/2008:
Dows 8,776.39 up 108.00 (1.25%), Nasdaq 1,577.03 up 26.33 (1.70%), SandP500 903.25 up 12.61 (1.42%).

The market started the day off in positive territory and in the early afternoon the Dow was up more than 100 points, and by the end of the day the market closed more than 1% higher.

Closing Bell, Market Summary: 12/30/2008

12/30/2008:
Dows 8,668.39 up 184.46 (2.17%), Nasdaq 1,550.70 up 40.38 (2.67%), SandP500 890.64 up 21.22 (2.44%).

The market started the day off in positive territory and in the early afternoon the Dow was up more than 100 points, and by the end of the day the market closed more than 2% higher.

Closing Bell, Market Summary: 12/19/2008

12/19/2008:
Dows 8,579.11 down 25.88 (0.30%), Nasdaq 1,564.32 up 2.60 (0.77%), SandP 500 887.88 up 8.76 (0.29%).

The market started the day off the positive on the news that President Bush has approved a $17.4 billion plan to help the struggling US auto makers. By lunchtime, the indexes had given up all their gains and for a moment were in negative territory. For the rest of the afternoon the market was pretty stable and closed mixed.
MandT to buy Provident for about $400 mln in stock.

Closing Bell, Market Summary: 12/17/2008

12/17/2008:
Dows 8,824.34 down 99.80 (1.12%), Nasdaq 1,579.31 down 10.58 (0.67%), S\&P 500 904.42 down 8.76 (0.96%).

The market started the day off in negative territory and by the afternoon managed to gain the loss back and turn positive with the help of materials, energy and consumer-related stocks but the market could not hold on to the gains and by the closing bell the market had closed down.
Apple Stock Downgraded Due To Concerns over Jobs Health: Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003, underwent surgery in 2004 to remove the malignancy. Downgrade occurred due to the lack of a succession plan if Jobs were to leave his post.
Crude Oil again lost ground even with the cutback by Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to the lowest level in more than four years.
Chrysler said it was halting its manufacturing for at least a month, beginning Friday December 19, 2008.

Closing Bell, Market Summary: 12/16/2008

12/16/2008:
Dows 8,924.14 up 359.61 (4.20%), Nasdaq 1,589.89 up 81.55 (5.41%), S\&P 500 913.18 up 44.61 (5.14%).
The Federal Reserve today lowered the Fed benchmark interest rate to the range of zero to 0.25 percent, the lowest level on record. The Federal Reserve also said that it will use "all available tools" to combat a severe financial crisis and prolonged recession. The stock market soared after the rate cut to close more then 300 points higher.
Crude Oil was down 91 cents to $43.60 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
