Bollywood icon Aishwarya Rai has set the screen on fire for years - and now firecracker makers are endorsing that as well. Rai, former Miss World and Indian cinema's most prominent face across the world, is the most prominent cover girl on firecracker boxes as India gears up for Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights celebrating the victory of good over evil, which falls this year on November 1.

Those boxes which sport her photo are selling like hot cake, with people queuing up to buy the ‘Ash’ firecrackers. Vendors have cashed in on the trend and most Diwali stalls are now selling firecrackers with her picture.

Rai is a superstar in India. She has made more than 30 movies and has served on the Cannes Film Festival jury.

Bollywood faces are a big draw on the product wrappings, but some current and former Hollywood heartthrobs - like Marilyn Monroe and Kate Winslet - are also endorsing Indian firecrackers.

Indian-International star Aishwarya Rai stars in the role of a Byzantine warrior in the epic film ‘The Last Legion’. THE LAST LEGION is based on acclaimed author Valerio Massimo Manfredi’s international best-selling 2003 novel. The film is set against the fall of the Roman Empire in 470AD and its last emperor, 12-year-old Romulus Augustus.

"Queen of Bollywood" to Land in Hollywood

India's top female actress, Aishwarya Rai, is ready to take on Hollywood. In an interview on Sunday's 60 Minutes, CBS's Bob Simon talked with Rai, who is 31, discussing her work in India and her aspirations for the future. Rai, who has starred in more than 30 films in India, is about to begin filming The Mistress of Spices. She will also be appearing in Chaos with Meryl Streep and Singularity with Brendan Fraser.

Although Rai has been called the world's most beautiful woman, she has yet to have an onscreen kiss.

However, once she was crowned Miss World in 1994, she was inundated with offers that she literally could not refuse. Her first film, Iruvar, was released in 1997. In 1997, she won the Best Female Debutante Award for her role in Aur Paar Ho Gaya. She may be best known for her roles in Jeans (1998) and Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000). In 1999, she won the Filmfare award for best actress for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Devdas (2002), in which she starred, is the most successful Bollywood film ever made.

In 2003, Rai became the first Indian actor to be part of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival. She was also hired as part of the L'Oreal Dream Team. She was also listed as one of Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People in the World Today" and included on Rolling Stone Magazine's annual 'Hot List."

Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai and the nations sensation, Sania Mirza moved on to the semi finals of the desifans Star Wars, Clash of desi stars contest. Aishwarya Rai knocked out beauty queen Sushmita Sen, Sania Mirza thrashed Mallika Sherawat and Priyanka Chopra knocked out Kareena Kapoor to move on to the semi finals of the womens catgeory.

The womens category was the one which had beauty queens Aishwarya Rai play versus Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya proved to the the popular one once again beating Sushmita 61 to 39. Hot Sania Mirza clashed against the sizzling Mallika Sherawat but Mallika was not a match for aggresive Sania. Sania Mirza had the most convincing victory gathering more then 80% of the votes. Sania Mirza looks to one of the favorites for the womens championship and is all set to set up a clash with Aishwarya Rai in the womens final. In the other womens quarter finals Kareena Kapoor lost to the Priyanka Chopra.

In the mens category Shahrukh Khan edged out Abhishek Bachchan in a tight contest. Dad Amitabh Bachchan knocked out Salman Khan pretty convincingly, Rahul Dravid proved he is much much popular than Saurav Ganguly. In a unique clash between Bollywood and Cricket Stars, Sachin Tendulkar beat Hrithik Roshan to move on to the semis.

The Star Wars: Clash of the desi Stars is based on online voting and the semi finals start next week !! The semi finals will see huge clashes … Amitabh Bachchan v/s Shahrukh Khan !! Sachin v/s Dravid !! Aishwarya v/s Priyanka Chopra and Sania Mirza v/s the winner of Preity/Rani !!

After making The Rising, director Ketan Mehta is now busy planning his next lavish production ‘The Rebel’ in which he plans to cast Aishwarya Rai as Rani Laxmibai.

Ash is already playing a Byzantine warrior in The Last Legion for which she is currently shooting in Russia. Mehta’s film would be a second film where she would be required to do some hard core action.

Mehta wants to release the film on August 15, 2007 to mark the 150 years celebration of the 1857 Mutiny. Says Singh, “Ketan Mehta is willing to wait for Ash’s dates as long as the film is released on the scheduled date.” Mehta, however, says that it is incidental that it will also mark the 150th year of the National Uprising.

Since the time when Farhan Akhtar announced his plans to remake Don with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, questions were asked whether SRK would be able to create the same kind of magic that mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan did in the 70s blockbuster.

"It was a nightmare," actress Priyanka Chopra recalled the incident happened on October 9th. Priyanka got two days off from 'Krrish' in Malaysia.

Priyanka Chopra and Hrithik Roshan got two days off from Krissh in Malaysia. They both rushed back to India… only to be stranded midair after the Sahara skidding incident at the Mumbai airport on the evening of the 9th, but the plane couldn't land at Mumbai airport, and after hovering over Mumbai for nearly an hour it flown of to Delhi.

Fortunately Duggu (Hrithik), who is the hero of the film, and his dad were with me. They looked after me so well. Otherwise can you imagine being stranded on Delhi airport on my own?"

Media reports that she has "split" with Harry Baweja's son Harman Baweja has Priyanka Chopra in splits. She can't believe sections of the media are still writing about her alleged romance with Baweja Jr's .

Priyanka arrived in Singapore from the US where her father is currently undergoing treatment. "He'll be there with mom for another month. Hopefully, after that he'll be completely cured," the concerned daughter sighs.

Aishwarya has worked with foreign units before, mainly Gurinder Chaddha's Bride & Prejudice and Chadha's husband's Mistress Of Spices where the entire unit was composed of foreigners. But The Last Legion is her first assignment outside India where she doesn't play an Indian character.

In Last Legion which she has just shot in Tunisia and Slovakia she plays a horse -rising sword- fighting warrior.

Ash is the main and only female lead in The Last Legion. To that extent it could be perceived as her true launch into international cine-stardom.

Now after Last Legion Ash goes into Umrao Jaan and Dhoom 2. "Both are very different from one another. I've never played these kinds of roles before."

At the mahurat of JP Dutta's new film, Umrao Jaan, leading lady Aishwarya Rai looked slim and radiant. She had flown back the night before from the shooting of The Last Legion in Slovakia straight to the event.

The turn-out was impressive. Besides Shabana and Ash, the rest of the cast -- Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Divya Dutta and Puru Raj Kumar -- also made their appearance.

Anu Malik’s daughter, Anmol has already made her entry into Bollywood. The 15-year old has recorded a song for J P Dutta’s Umrao Jaan.

The song recorded at Krishna Studio, Jogeshwari, will be picturised on the young Aishwarya Rai in the movie. Richa Sharma will sing the same song which will be picturised on the adult Aishwarya Rai.

India's most famous actress, Aishwarya Rai, has been voted the most attractive woman of 2003 by hellomagazine.com readers. The green-eyed beauty took some 33 per cent of the vote, despite a strong challenge from British newcomer Keira Knightley, who was in second with 31 per cent.

Aishwarya (Aish/Aishu) who first shot to fame after appearing in a Pepsi commercial in her home country.

In 2003 she became the first Indian actress to sit on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival.
